Challenge Day 3: Organizing!

The challenge question for day 3 is "Write a blog post on the same topic as one my most popular posts." According to my blog stats, my most viewed post is "Light Bulb Moment" which is a post about organizing scrapbook or other craft projects.

Today I am going to share show I organize a couple of items.

First up is Ribbon. I'm the first to admit that I have a ribbon problem. I absolutely love ribbon and lace. For the longest time I had ribbon stored in candy type jars. In fact, these exact jars form IKEA. I have to admit that it looked gorgeous, but it wasn't very practical to use. Here is now I store my ribbon currently.

It is just a craft organizer, and I wrapped my ribbon around embroidery floss cards. The thicker lace and ribbon I can fold and put on the side like the lace. I don't typically use much thicker ribbon so it works for me. I'm also not going to tell you how many containers of ribbon like this that I have. Once I am done organizing my craft room and find all my ribbon and get it wound, I'm going to organize this by color, using the main color of the ribbon as a guide.

The next item that I'm going to touch on organizing is photographs. I used to be really good at remembering when I took a picture and find it easily. As I'm getting older, I'm no good at all. Or for instance if I want to find pictures with the Bellywings in them, and don't care from when they are from, I would have to sort through each month, and then each day to find them. It annoyed me to no end. This is how my picture files used to look:

Very clean and simple right? Well, I couldn't find a thing in there.

In 2010 I started to organize them a bit better. I still wanted them to be found my date, as I'm a bit anal that way, but I started to rename the folders to what pictures were inside.

Now I can easily find all of the pictures with Cullen or the Bellywings in them.

You may have a different photo organization method than I do, and hopefully that is working well for you. I just wanted to share what works well for me.

Layout Share!

Way back in January or February I took a few of pictures of my scrapbook layouts to share here on my blog. Well it's now May and have I shared them yet? Nope, of course not! Here they are, I hope you enjoy!


This layout was made using the January Kit from Jen's House of Scrap. (Link in my sidebar) I have never seen the corrugated letters before! I fell in love with them. Gorgeous. Ink them for a bit of added texture or leave them plain. Love them!!! So fun!

Another layout using contents from Jen's House of Scrap January kit. It's hard to see it in the picture, but I sewed around each of the color circles on the page. I have been loving the look of sewing on my pages lately.

Very simple page, made using Cosmo Cricket paper and one of the Making Memories Vintage Findings packets. Those are so fun!!! They include so much stuff for only $3.99.

I have been loving doing the 8 1/2 x 11 pages lately. I don't know why, but they are just a fun size to do. Using all American Crafts paper and Flair. Oh how I love American Crafts. Yum.

The Beautiful Besties page was a challenge page at RSC! We were given the dotted patterned paper and had to make a layout using the paper. Then the croppers chose a winner. I think we had an hour or less to put this together. Those of you that know me, know I take that long to choose my pictures!!! I do like how this page turned out and then the croppers chose me a winner! I was shocked as there were so many great layouts that people made up!

Oh how I love this little shelf. I picked it up at the $1 store and didn't know what I would do with it. I cut apart and cut down the element cards from Jen's House of Scrap kit and made this fun little thing! I want to go back to the $1 store and pick up a couple more of these. I envision making these for holiday's and having them displayed through the season.

Progress

I've been at RSC all day and I'm finally making progress on my South Dakota trip pictures!!! Jason and I only took the trip in 2006 and I'm finally working on the scrapbooking pages. I've only done a few pages, but it feels great to make progress on it! I should be taking pictures of my layouts and sharing them, but I am too lazy and I'm using Jessi's laptop so I'm not going to yet.

The best part is that I decided that I'm not scrapbooking all of the pictures that I printed, so I bought some of the photo album pages so I can incorportate all of the pictures into the scrapbook. That is if I can fit them all into one scrapbook. I'm thinking it will end up being two scrapbooks.

I'm sure this blog entry made so sense to anyone since I'm carrying on conversations at RSC while I'm supposed to be scrapbooking and that I'm super tired and have an awful headache. But oh well.

The Nelson Wedding Layout

I thought that this layout deserved a post of it's own. I just loved this wedding picture of Grandma and Grandpa Nelson. Even better was when I was going through Mom's pictures and found a copy of their actual wedding invitation!!! I was thrilled. I couldn't bear to use the original invitation on the layout, so I scanned it in and printed it out via picture format.

Enough talking, here is the layout! OH, please don't mind the glare. I had a hell of a time getting pictures of these for some reason. If anyone has tips for taking pictures of layouts please share!!!







I took this last picture to show a close up of the textures and dimension of it. The brown paper with blue is actually flocked and soft! (It's old Heidi Grace paper.) I used some old lace that I had on hand to make the photo corners. Yes, that is an actual paper doily behind the picture, and I used Kaiser Kraft pearls as well. The Cardstock is Bazzil (I had none of my yummy dark brown American Crafts :() I cut out the title myself out of cardstock using my Quickutz Alphabets. The Flower on the first page is from Prima and is one of their new releases! LOVE IT!

Scrapbook Layouts!

Here are two layouts that I did last Friday while at RSC, my favorite scrapbook store!

NOTE: To see them in their entirety, click on them and they will open up larger. For some reason my blog likes to cut the sides of my pictures off.


This layout is about out trip to Two Harbors and Lake Superior back in 2008.

All supplies are American Crafts!



This is one of my favorite layouts. I love this picture that Susan took of her and Grandma Nelson.

All patterned paper and chipboard elements are Crate Paper. The only exception is the mat that the picture is on is K&Co.

This layout is based on the sketch found at Liz's blog, "The Scrappiest". I used Sketch 33 and turned the layout so to speak. I did keep it very simple.

Day 18 {Goodies}

Day 18

I went to Michael's today and picked up two pieces of their Friendly Forest line. I really need to stop buying so much scrapbooking stuff.

Journal Jar

I made 5 of these journal jar's for Christmas gifts this year. I forgot to take pictures of them, so this is courtesy of my friend Jessi who received one!

What I did was type up a ton of journaling prompts/questions, printed them on fun colored paper, cut and folded them, and tossed them in a jar.

When they run out of something to blog about, they can take a prompt from the jar and then blog about it.

Or you could also give the jar with a journal and they can just paste the question in the journal and write their answer.

I made one for myself, but never finished it. I just have all my questions in the jar but not decorated.

Day 333 {Black Friday} + RSC Crop!

Day 333

We got up at 4:30 a.m. to head to one store...Toys R Us of course! They had a Lego ship that Jason wanted at a good price. Toys R Us opened at 5 a.m. We were there around 4:45 a.m. and were out of there by 5:10 a.m. Then home and back to bed or a while.


Nancy from RSC (the local scrapbook store) gave Jessi and I these ducks one day when we were cropping. They are now our mascots! The one on the left is Stewart and the one on the right is Howard.

Day 319 {Ollie and Olivia} + Bonus Picture!

As some of you may know I'm a bit of a Quickutz Freak. LOVE my Quickutz. These little owls are part of the November release. We had fun at the crop and I made two of them. Love those little owls!


I bought the Quickutz small owl die and made Ollie the Owl. He took me over an hour to make and by the time I was done, I wasn't sure if I would ever make another one.

Jessi asked me shortly after I was done making him if she could have him. I gave them to her. By the end of the night Ollie had a woman named Olivia, also an owl.

Retreat!

Self-Portrait A Day Layouts

This is how I am doing my self-portrait a day scrapbook pages. Anywhere from 1-4 pictures on an 8.5 by 11 page, mounted onto black cardstock to go into a 12x12 scrapbook album.

{Make & Take Layout}

This was a make & take at the retreat I went to. Simple, but I LOVE the colors and the paper. I wasn't fond of the paper to being with, but after playing with it, I love it!

{Music Layout}

I am in love with this picture of Susan. It is just so her. I really struggled with this layout. I'm still not sure that I love the layout though. Anyone have any constructive criticism for this one?

I am in love with the bird stamp set I used here! It's "Birds Galore" by Inkadinkado. I am using it a lot. LOVE the birds and owls. I stamped the birds on green cardstock with pink ink and then cut it out by hand. Used pop dots to add dimension to it.

The strip that you see here under "Music" is a Bazzil strip. LOVING those as well!

I made the journaling spot! I was so proud of myself, LOL, though I don't know why since it's so easy to do. Brackets are once again Quickutz and then I just made the lines and did the journaling. I still need to add the date of when the picture was taken to the layout. Must not forget that.

I inked the edges of the black border with white ink. I so need a white ink pad. I LOVE this look. Flourishes were cut from my Quickutz.

Oh and a layout of Julie is in the works. It's all planned out in my head, just haven't had the time to scrapbook it yet.

True Love Layout

I had a ton of fun with this layout of Jason and I. So bright and fun. The paper is the new American Crafts line.

I cut the hearts out using the Quickutz Revolution, and of course inked the edges. For my title here, I added the word "True" to make my title "True Love" I really liked how it looked.

Used some Bazzill Strips here on the edge of the picture frame, so to speak, torn edges and used a staple to adhere them. Also notice the brown buttons for added dimension.

The chipboard heart I added Stickles on to make it glittery. LOVE my Stickles and glitter.

Day 299 {Friends!} + more retreat pics!

Day 299

I met Jessi at a crop at RSC and here we are together at the retreat! Jessi is hilarious and so much fun to be around.



On Friday night, late at night, a buffalo head fell down off the wall and landed on poor Ms. La Tete. The noise was so loud and we thought at first that someone fell down the stairs. It was so freaky!

The next day, Buffalo Bob as we called him, ended up on Nancy's chair (Nancy owns RSC with her daughter Anna) with Ms. La Tete hanging off of him. He even wore a name tag so he could get a prize!



Did you know that too much laughing causes pain? I know that!

At the retreat late at night we thought it was hilarious that Jenny (the one on the right) sent Christmas cards twice to some people one year. We were all laughing so hard. Soon Jessi (on the left) started to say, "It Hurts!, It Hurts!" So much fun!
